Criminal Conduct Screening

On April 25, 2012, the Equal Employment Commission voted 4 to 1 to approve new guidelines regarding criminal background checks. The new guidelines discourage blanket exclusions of individuals who have been convicted of crimes and encourage the use of individualized assessment. They encourage the employer to assess whether the individual has a criminal background that would be defined as a job-related exclusion based on business necessity.
